ORGANIZATIONAL PROFILE
INVEST is a non-profit organization that enables women and children in Africa to grow past cultural constraints and escape the dismal cycle set forth by HIV/AIDS, civil war, and utter poverty. INVEST understands the value of individuals within a community - by focusing on the needs of widows and orphans we are able to transform villages. INVEST works with the traditional authority to provide land for the women to ensure that each mother and/or guardian can provide food for her family. Taking a holistic and sustainable approach to development, INVEST works to restore the physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being of the people we serve.
Through our sponsorship programs we not only provide medical care, nutrition programs, mentoring/tutoring, agricultural training, educational development, and vocational training we also enable lasting relationships between these women and children and their sponsors. We trust the model that Jesus set forth in the design of relationships and long to see relationships grow despite the distance.
Since 2004, INVEST has been developing a strategy to facilitate the development process. The INVEST development strategy has a unique order, which has been developed by Africans for Africans. The basic idea:
· Outreach Evangelism/Fellowship to a New Village
· Teach the Word of God
· Assess Needs
· Introduce Nutrition Programs and Medical Care
· Introduce Educational and Agricultural Development Activities
· Introduce Community Development Activities (i.e. sanitation projects)
· Continue on-going Discipleship Training/Mentoring
· Introduce Economic Development Activities
· Replicate program (i.e. individuals from current village to begin relationships in an adjacent New Village).
This approach is successful because the INVEST staff members who implement this strategy are native to their respective countries and understand the cultural nuances of the communities with which they work. INVEST sets forth a commitment to bring hope and opportunity to the women and children of rural Malawi one village at a time.
